If you're visiting the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, be sure to put a cultural activity in your diary! Lyon's Musée des Confluences is a museum of natural history, anthropology, society and civilisation. Located in one of Lyon's new business districts, this museum is the latest of Lyon's major cultural establishments.
The Musée des Confluences in Lyon, a must-see for natural history enthusiasts
Opened in 2014, the Musée des Confluences offers visitors a permanent display covering more than 3,000 m². The permanent collections tell the great story of humanity in four exhibitions:
- Origins: world stories. Go back in time and discover the origins of life and humanity.
- Species: the web of life. This exhibition looks at the place of human beings and their interactions with the living world.
- Societies: the human stage. A space to move freely and enjoy collections from different cultures and eras.
- Eternities: visions of the afterlife. An exploration of death and funeral practices.
The museum also offers temporary exhibitions throughout the year on a variety of themes: photography, sculpture, animals and minerals. Explore some fascinating subjects and be amazed! Conferences and workshops are frequently organised.
As well as the exhibitions, don't forget to take the time to admire the museum's architecture from the outside. A mix of metal, glass and concrete, the building impresses and divides: make up your own mind.
