How long does a business trip last?
Do you sometimes have to travel to your company's other locations in France? From a few days a year to a few days a month, the pace can vary depending on your job title and responsibilities. But what is the allowed business travel time per employee? And what is actually counted as 'business travel time'? Here are some answers from Nemea…
Working time during a business trip
In France in 2017, the average business trip involved stays of 2 to 3 nights (aparthotel, hotel, rental, etc.). Your business travel time may exceed this average, but be aware that French labour laws do not currently regulate travel time during a business trip.
However, the law does not consider the time spent travelling between your home and work to be working time. To find out how many hours you legally have to work when travelling on business, you should refer to your internal regulations and/or the collective bargaining agreement, which sometimes govern these practices. Generally, your manager will give you a document setting out the terms and conditions of your travel and the calculation of working time during your assignment.
